Genuine marble, hand-carved Maa Durga statue – white, polished marble
A beautiful Maa Durga statue, lovingly hand carved on a single block of genuine marble. You will appreciate the excellent craftsmanship of the sculpture which is executed with subtle detail to impart a sense of delicate softness to the facial features, elegance and calm in the poise. Our statues of Gods and Saints are carved to evoke a sense of the divine and serene instead of loud and bold.
The marble is polished to a sheen, but we can also offer them in unpolished form. Note that the natural grain of the marble is more obvious in polished stone.
Marble has a special place in history, craftsmanship and a tradition of grandeur from ancient times. Great masters from Bernini, Michelangelo to Rodin and present day sculptors favour marble over other stones. There is an amazing grace and elegance in marble. White marble is beautiful, strong, pure, elegant and yields to the sculptor’s touch.
Please do not confuse this with statues made with composite stones, resin, etc. which are not genuine marble. We use high quality white marble, which is unparalled in beauty and elegance, and increasingly rare in these times. Marble comes in a range of grains, texture and colours, and pricing can vary greatly amongst them. For example, a white marble can come in different textures and grains. The cheaper ones have a rough texture and are brittle; they will simply not last long. Colours, depending on their nature, can add or diminish the value of a marble. You need to ensure they are high quality, and not from stained or damaged stock.
There are a lot of similar products in the marketplace, but note that they are not all graded the same.
These products are not mass produced; they are handcrafted, using carefully selected natural materials, by skilled craftsmen over weeks. It is not possible to produce a high quality item at a super low price; and usually a cheap product means cheap materials, with low-skilled workmanship, and possibly using unethical practices with poor pay and sourcing.
We do not sell any junk. We source the finest materials and work with highly skilled artisans who have been in the craft for years. Our products undergo a number of checks at various stages to ensure our high quality standards. We pride ourselves in our ethical fair trade and sourcing practices. Above all, we work directly with the artisans to make a positive impact in their communities.
Many sellers use a generic photo to sell products, which may not look like what you receive. All our marble inlay products are made bespoke, and we share drawings and photographs to seek your approval, so you get exactly what you are paying for.
|This product is hand-made using natural materials. As with all things handcrafted, these pieces are unique and slight variations in colour, detail and dimensions, and small imperfections may be present, which adds to the intrinsic character and beauty of each piece.|
|For outdoors, the polish requires maintenance, using a beeswax/linseed mix or specialist marble wax that is available to buy online. This needs to be done every six months for a couple of years, then less so. Else you can leave the statue to develop a nice patina over time. The marble will etch to a matte finish due to the minute amount of acids in rainwater.
Frost and ice are the enemies of stone. A winter freeze alternating with thaws can crack or crumble any kind of stone, artificial or real. All marble structures will require protection from frost and ice. You could bring them inddors. Else, to keep them outdoors in winter, we recommend breathable waterproof covering, such as a polypropylene, to wrap the statues. Alternatively, you could build wooden shelters or sentry boxes.
You may also want to get your statues off the ground to prevent snow and ice from damaging their bases or frost heaves from toppling them over. You could build a level footing made of brick, cement to elevate your statue from the ground.
